The Federal Government has extended two key temporary EI measures until April 11, 2026, providing continued support for workers navigating job transitions: https://lnkd.in/gUeqx5Yc
Here’s what this means:
? No Clawback on Severance – Workers can now receive their full severance payments without it affecting their EI benefits.
? Immediate Benefits – The one-week waiting period for EI has been waived, meaning benefits will be paid for the first week of unemployment.
? 20 extra weeks of income support, up to a maximum of 65 weeks, to long-tenured workers who may need more time in a softer job market to find a job that is similar to the one they lost. The definition of “long-tenured workers” is unclear at this moment, but we expect the federal government to clarify in the coming weeks.
These extensions are a significant step towards ensuring income stability for Canadians during times of economic uncertainty.
